Hello everybody, and welcome to Day 5! This is also the start of my coverage of a brand new race! This time around, we will be focusing on the candidates currently running for the seat of Governor in the State of Florida. To start us out is David Jolly, who is currently:
Today’s Candidate: David Jolly
Jolly has quite the history with Floridian Politics, as he was a member of Congress from 2014-2017. After failing to be reelected for office in 2016, he spent the next 8 years at MSNBC working as a political analyst.
A notable change between that first session in Congress and his current platform is that he has switch parties. Even though he once ran as a Republican over a decade ago, he now aligns himself with the Democratic party.

Jolly’s campaign stances land squarely within the liberal ideology. As such, you will notice a departure from the current stances politicans hold in Tallahassee. Some of his stances include:
Expanding abortion access and reproductive rights to the degree of the original level of Roe v. Wade and Casey v. Planned Parenthood.
Removing the supermajority needed to pass constitutional amendments.
Using the law to restrict Florida Residents from purchasing modern firearms.
Investing heavily in renewable energy solutions
The final one of his points I would like to cover is slightly difficult to explain, so I will quote it directly: “Whether you’re a native born Floridian, an immigrant to our state, or a Tallahassee politician, if you break the law in Florida you’ll be held accountable. But Florida can also be a state that corrects disparities in criminal justice for communities, promoting local control of community policing…”
