Good day to all! Today is day 72 of the 100 Candidates in 100 Days campaign, and we round out the 17th District today by taking a look at the challenging opponent currently trying to dethrone the sitting incumbent. Currently representing the Democratic party in the 17th District is Matthew Montavon for Florida’s 17th District, so let’s see how he’s standing in this race:
Today’s Candidate: Matthew Montavon
Montavon has a long history with public and communityservice, as he worked with the Peace Corps and the Illinois Migrant Council. Then, when he moved down south to Southwest Florida, he continued that with service in hurricane relief organizations and other such groups. This is currently his second time running for office after losing the Democratic primary during the 2024 election.
Montavon is currently running as Democrat for the House, and as such, his positions line up closely with the liberal ideology, with positions such as:
Expanding abortion rights to the degree established during Roe v. Wade.
Establish further gun control
Restrict the Executive Branch’s use of its military powers
This concludes Day 72 of the 100 Candidates in 100 Days campaign. Thank you so much for reading, and we’ll continue with the 18th district in the next one. Please stay on the lookout for that!
