Welcome to Day 7! I thought to shake things up today by taking the past two candidates we’ve talked about and make a direct comparison in based on their political ideologies and stances on multiple different issues, so without further delay lets dive in.

Byron Donalds:

David Jolly

These two candidates appear on opposite sides of the political spectrum, and this is clearly visible in several different key issues, such as:

  • Immigration: Enforcement vs. Reform

Both candidates wish to resolve the problems America has with its immigration system and the prevalence of illegal immigration at the borders. They choose to go about it in very different ways. Donalds, being the conservative candidate, much prefers to enforce current law and tighten existing restrictions while streamlining the legal immigration process. Jolly, on the other hand, has chosen a more reformative approach as he promotes upending the current immigration system and invoking a more loose one.

  • Reproductive Rights: Pro-Life vs. Pro-Choice

On the topic of abortion, these candidates stand completely at odds. During his time in the House, Donalds voted consistently against the expansion of abortion rights at the Federal level. It is reasonable that he intends to do the same in the office of governor as well. In contrast, Jolly has taken the polar opposite stance, wanting to expand abortion rights back to the standard expressed in the now-overturned case of Roe v. Wade.

  • Environmental Policy: Natural Preservation vs. Renewable Energy

Surprisingly, both of these candidates agree that protecting the environment is a priority. They go about it in slightly different ways, however. Donalds seeks to protect the land and air in order to either keep it pristine or revamp it through restoration projects such as the one currently in the Everglades. Jolly prefers a more reformative approach by replacing the current energy infrastructure with wind turbines and solar farms.

This concludes Day 7. Thank you for reading! I hope this comparison helped you to decide which of these two front-running candidates you would prefer as your governor in the state of Florida. Be prepared for Day 8!
